Imagine each of us walking around with a large billboard that advertises who we are. People read this billboard as they approach us. If we display confidence, joy, and faith, others perceive us positively and respond accordingly. Conversely, if our billboard broadcasts doubt, fear, and negativity, that is what others see, and it profoundly influences how they interact with us.
“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.”, Proverbs 23:7 (KJV)
The thoughts we hold and the energy we project attract similar experiences into our lives. This is not New Age philosophy, it is ancient biblical wisdom. What we think and believe internally will eventually manifest externally. And many times, we get stuck in repetitive patterns because we keep advertising the same messages rooted in past experiences.
Paul gives us the remedy: “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark” (Philippians 3:13-14, KJV). To break free from old cycles, we must change the messages on our billboard, letting go of past hurts and embracing a new identity in Christ.
Standing in the Present as Time Moves Past Us
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.”, Romans 12:2 (KJV)
We often believe we are racing toward the future. But in reality, we are always in the present moment. Time moves past us like frames in a movie reel, we are the constant, and time flows around us. Our lives resemble a magnificent carpet being woven just ahead of us, with the patterns formed by our current thoughts and actions.
If we change our thinking now, we alter the pattern of the fabric that unfolds before us. By renewing our minds, we change the tapestry of our lives.
A remarkable study at Harvard University illustrates this powerfully. Hotel housekeepers were informed that their daily work met the requirements for a healthy amount of exercise. Over four weeks, these women showed significant health improvements, including weight loss, reduced body fat, and lower blood pressure, without any changes to their actual work routines. Their perception changed their reality.
When we see our actions and ourselves differently, the world responds in kind. The same principle applies spiritually. When we view ourselves through the lens of God’s Word rather than our past failures, transformation follows.
Planting New Seeds for a Transformed Future
“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”, Galatians 6:7 (KJV)
The principle of sowing and reaping is foundational in Scripture. Farmers understand that the type of seed sown determines the harvest. Similarly, the thoughts we think, the words we speak, and the actions we take are seeds that produce a future harvest.
Consider the Chinese bamboo tree. After planting the seed, there is no visible growth for up to five years. Then, almost miraculously, it grows up to ninety feet tall within just five weeks. During those years, the extensive root system was developing underground, preparing to support the rapid growth.
Research in neuroscience confirms a parallel truth: it takes at least twenty-one days of focused, intentional thinking to begin forming new neural pathways in the brain. Consistent mental focus over an extended period leads to significant changes in brain structure and behavior. God designed us with the remarkable ability to transform our minds, and our lives, through deliberate, sustained effort.
“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?”, Isaiah 43:18-19 (KJV)
Rewrite Your Billboard
Today, I invite you to rewrite the messages on your inner billboard. Let go of past narratives that no longer serve you. Embrace the present moment as an opportunity to sow new seeds of faith and purpose. Trust that as you renew your mind and change your thoughts, God is faithful to weave a beautiful future for you.
Transformation begins within. By changing what we project and how we perceive our journey through time, we align ourselves with God’s purpose. Let us step forward with renewed minds and hearts, ready to see the new thing God is doing in our lives.
“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”, Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)
